Account Systems Engineer.  Working titles included Workstation Specialist and LAN Consultant.  Selected to be part of the IBM St. Louis Custom Services Team.  As a member of this team supported all of Southern Illinois and Eastern Missouri in the areas of Personal Workstations and Local Area Networks. Taught over $200,000 in IBM education, participated in project management opportunities, billed as a Local Area Network Consultant, and was often requested by name from key St. Louis clients to assist in project planning or network consulting.

Managed a LAN Network Analysis for a mid-sized petroleum company.  The deliverables for the analysis included a report comparing the planned directions for the company with industry trends.  The major concern of the company was planning to move to a Client-Server computing platform.  As a result, the analysis team lead by Ron Gines delivered a series of recommendations which helped facilitate this company's move to this new computing environment.

Managed a project to enhance host-batch-job monitoring for a major telecommunications company.  The project allowed an intelligent workstation to constantly monitor job activities and flag specific jobs which require operator intervention.  The project improved the efficiency of the operators by a significant margin and was later expanded to allow the remote monitoring of host-jobs located throughout several states.

Certified as a National OS/2 LAN Server Instructor for Skills Dynamics (an IBM Company).  For the last three years, Mr. Gines has been an instructor for the LAN Server curriculum.  He has logged hundreds of hours teaching and is regularly rated as an 'excellent' instructor by his students.

Developed a series of OS/2 Courses.  In the 'early' days of OS/2, developed a series of OS/2 courses to be taught in the St. Louis area before IBM developed a set of courses on a national level.  The courses covered topics from OS/2 basics, host communications, OS/2 versus DOS, OS/2 LAN Server and Requester configurations, applications setup, Presentation Manager, memory management, and performance tuning.

Recommended LAN Server network Designs and performed LAN Server Tuning for several Midwestern companies.  Many of these recommendations  allowed the organizations to move from a reactive administrative style to one of proactive management.  As a result, the organizations became more responsive to their end users and were able to contribute to the competitive nature of the firm.
